BEEHCONS INITIATIVE

Business Enterprise, Education & Health Centers Offering Neighborhood Services (BEEHCONS) are youth and family centers that offer opportunities, services and activities that promote the healthy development of children, youth, families and communities.   The Center will offer a vibrant array of programs that increases the competitiveness of New Haven children and their families.  BEEHCONS will operate year round and have a combination of any one to three core programming components: a Learning Center, a Health & Wellness Facility and a Business Enterprise and Job Training program.

Learning Center

Learning Centers will form the foundation of every BEEHCONS.  They will offer programs both free and fee-based to community members and will serve as the doorway to other programs.  Regardless of the size, every BEEHCONS will have a Learning Center component.

Health & Wellness Center

The Health and Wellness Center will focus on prevention and wellness education and decreasing high-risk behaviors.  The extent to which this component is implemented should depend on the size of the facility and the availability of health resources and recreational facility.   The extent to which this component is implemented will depend on the size of the facility and the availability of health resources and recreational facility.

Economic Development Center

The Economic Development Center will provide a network connecting residents with learning opportunities, technical assistance and resources to further their efforts to establish childcare center, youth programming and related business ventures.
