The Story Continues Through the Lives We Touch
Andrene

Andrene Cross’ path to Hope for New Haven did not begin in a classroom. It began in corporate America, during a season marked by personal challenges, childcare struggles, and the responsibility of advocating for her family.
As a parent navigating inconsistent childcare while supporting her eldest son, who has special needs, Andrene saw firsthand how access to quality early childhood education can shape families’ lives. What began as a practical step toward stability soon became something more purposeful.
That turning point came through CERCLE, Hope for New Haven’s workforce and leadership development program. Through CERCLE, Andrene was introduced to early childhood education not simply as a job, but as a calling, one grounded in service, growth, and community impact.
“I was always told I was patient and good with children,” Andrene shares. “But once I started, I fell in love with the work.”
Through early childhood education coursework, behavioral training, and mentorship, CERCLE provided Andrene with the structure and support she needed to transition into the field. Those experiences built the confidence and skills that now shape her work as a Lead Teacher in Hope’s infant classroom.
At Hope for New Haven, Andrene found an environment that reinforced what CERCLE had planted: that growth is expected, supported, and continuous. She creates a nurturing, structured classroom where children feel safe to grow and families are often surprised by just how much their children are capable of.
One moment stands out most for Andrene. Drawing on her training and experience at Hope, she supported a child who was struggling to walk, through patience and consistency, helping the child make meaningful progress. Today, that child is thriving, and the family continues to stay in touch.
Alongside professional growth, faith has been central to Andrene’s journey, nurtured within Hope’s faith-based community and reflected in how she shows up for children and families with empathy, patience, and purpose.
“Hope Development Center marked the beginning of a new chapter in my life,” she reflects.
Today, Andrene’s story reflects the heart of CERCLE’s mission, supporting individuals as they transition into meaningful work and arrive at Hope equipped to grow, lead, and serve children and families every day.
