When Michelle first found Hope for New Haven, her son James was just two years old. She wasn’t simply searching for childcare,  she was looking for a place where her child would be truly seen, supported, and loved.

What began as an early childhood enrollment became a long-term partnership. Hope quickly became the foundation of James’ early development, walking alongside him as he transitioned into the New Haven public school system. Even as he entered larger school environments, Hope remained a constant — through before- and after-school programming, summer camp, and a community that continued to show up for him year after year.

For Michelle, the difference was clear.

“What I really appreciated about Hope is that they loved him. His genuine best interest was always their priority.”

At Hope, James was supported as a whole child. Staff worked closely with his therapists,
accommodated his developmental needs, and reinforced learning with consistency and compassion. He was never defined by his diagnosis, he was valued for who he is.

“They didn’t just educate him,  they cared about him as a whole person.”

That intentional care built confidence that followed James into public school and beyond.

“Hope helped him develop self-esteem and confidence.”

Faith also became an anchor in his growth.

“Without Hope, I don’t know if that would have been planted in the same way.”

Now 14, James remains deeply connected to Hope through summer programs and relationships
that continue to shape who he is becoming.

Michelle’s story is a testament to what happens when a community invests in the whole child. Hope for New Haven is more than a program, it is a place that grows with families, grounding children in love, confidence, and faith at every stage of their journey.
